Tyson Gay was stunned by fellow American Walter Dix in the men's 200m at the sixth Diamond League meeting of the season in Eugene.

Gay had spoken of the need to 'put up or shut up' prior to the Prefontaine Classic on Saturday, but he could not deliver a victory as Dix outpaced him with a time of 19.72s. Gay came home four hundredths of a second slower, while Ryan Bailey clocked a personal best to finish third.

The script for the women's 400m was more predictable as Allyson Felix crossed the line first in 50.27s. In a competitive field, Felix edged out Botswana's Amantle Montsho by three hundredths of a second, with Jamaican Shericka Williams third. Both Montsho and Williams produced personal bests, but it was not enough to deny the classy Felix.

Performance of the night arguably came in the men's 110m hurdles, where American David Oliver clocked the fourth fastest time of all time. Oliver ran 12.90s to equal a national record, which was just shy of the world record 12.87s ran by Dayron Robles.

"I didn't get a great start but I brought it home," said Oliver, who beat Ryan Wilson.

Elsewhere, the women's 100m went to Olympic 200m champion Veronica Campbell-Brown, who ran a personal best 10.78s. The time was the best of the year, and it pushed Olympic 100m champion Shelly-Ann Fraser into second with Carmelita Jeter third.
